?Lapband surgery offers a new chance at a healthy life for countless Americans. The costs associated with the procedure may make it seem out of reach for many. A contest sponsored by Chicago’s DayOne Health downtown location will provide the lapband procedure and twelve months of follow up care to one deserving winner. This is the second such contest that DayOne Health has sponsored. The first winner has gone on to successfully maintain an over 100 pound weight loss and to advocate for the health and emotional benefits of lapband surgery.

The current contest is accepting submissions between March 1 and June 30. Participants must submit a 500 word essay that explains how lapband surgery would change and improve their lives. The essays will be read both by healthcare professionals from DayOne Health as well as a panel of former patients who have benefited from the procedure. In August the winner will be announced. Participants must be eighteen years of age to enter the contest and must fit a set of medical conditions to be eligible for the procedure. More details regarding medical parameters can be found on the DayOne website. The winner will receive the lapband surgery and a year of aftercare free of charge. DayOne’s Dr. Jonathan Myers will be performing the procedure and follow up care.
