It is hard to believe, but even some of our favorite stars have had a battle with weight loss. Here are just a few of the celebrities that chose to use the lap-band system to help them achieve their goal.
Carnie Wilson was the first celebrity to speak openly about her weight problem and with her first lap-band surgery in 1999; she broadcasted the surgery live on the internet. With that surgery she successfully went from a size 28 to a size 6 and lost a total of 150 pounds. After having two children and opening a cheesecake business out of her home, she regained most of the weight back. In January she opted to have the surgery again and so far has lost 30 pounds.
Anybody that has watched “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” knows that Lauren Manzo has always struggled with her weight. Originally, she did not want to let her fans know about her because she didn’t want to let them down if it did not work. She finally opened up and admitted that last September she had the lap-band surgery and she can’t be happier. Before the surgery she weighed 185 pounds and within nine months she had already lost 30 pounds.
In 1999, Sharon Osbourne decided to have gastric by-pass surgery and was able to lose 125 pounds. In December of 2010, she decided to have to have surgery to remove the lap band though to learn how to control her eating disorder on her own. She stated “I think I have some sort of self-destruct button” and decided she needs to figure out with the help of psychotherapy why she continues to eat to an extreme.
In 2003, American Idol judge Randy Jackson also chose to undergone gastric bypass surgery. After being diagnosed with Type II diabetes in 2001, he realized that he needed to make changes for the sake of his health. He is quoted as saying “I have tried as many diets as there have been American Idol finalists” but admits that none of them worked. Starting out at 350 pounds, he has managed to make it down to 220 and although he continues to lose weight he admits “the struggle continues; it never ends.”
